Melville's Billy Budd
- "Billy Budd: Famous Last Words." Cardozo Studies in
Law and Literature 1 (1989): 109-21.
The analytic intentionalism espoused by Walter Benn Michaels
in "Against Theory" and elsewhere is too strong, but in allowing
for the possibility of misinterpretation it accommodates the
history of Melville's Billy Budd, a tale that encodes
error and guarantees misinterpretation.
